Hospital Selection Model
Does the Healthcare Advisor 'rate' hospitals?
No. Because everyone chooses a hospital differently, Subimo has developed a model that allows for differences in individual preferences and situations. Subimo's unique hospital selection model allows the user to indicate which factors are most important to the person making the decision. The model gives the user guidance on which factors to select, based on the opinion of our Medical Editorial Panel. The user can accept these default factors, or customize choices based upon what is important to him or her in selecting a hospital.
The resulting report shows the best match hospitals for the user - for a particular procedure or type of care - based on his or her choices about what factors are important. This is a measure of the best match or best fit for the person making the decision, not someone else's opinion about which hospital is the best.
A hospital's performance on any of the factors selected by the user is not a guarantee of a good or bad outcome. We encourage users to consider multiple factors when choosing a hospital for care. And, we encourage users to seek out additional sources of information in their decision-making process, including talking to their physician and contacting hospitals directly. In addition to hospital information, users should understand their physician's experience.
Why don't some hospitals appear on the site?
There are several reasons why a hospital you expect to see might not appear in the results.
- If a hospital has no patient volume for the procedure or type of
care you have selected, that hospital will not appear in the results.
There are several exceptions to this rule:
- Children's hospitals will appear if you click the "Include Children's Hospitals" checkbox when selecting your factors, even if they have no patient volume data for your selected procedure or type of care.
- For certain "age-sensitive" procedures (C-Section, Fibroid Tumor Removal, Ovarian Cyst Removal, Myringotomy, Tonsillectomy/Adenoidectomy, and Tubal Ligation) and types of care (Obstetrics/Delivery and Newborns categories), if the data source for a hospital is Medicare only, that hospital will not be excluded from the result set if it has zero volume but is otherwise among the best matches for your selected factors.
- Hospitals that report their data to Medicare or the state as part of a multi-hospital system (rather than as an individual hospital) will not appear separately in the results.
- Certain hospitals - such as psychiatric, chronic care, sub-acute, long-term care, rehabilitation and certain other specialty care hospitals, as well as government hospitals - are usually excluded from the results, since they either do not typically perform surgical procedures or are not available to most of the population. We suggest you contact such hospitals directly to learn more about their experience with the procedure or type of care you need.
